As part of the young staff development process, EDC fully support staff for further study. Big congratulation to Anousak Chaysavang, who has just successfully passed his exam on German language, which is a compulsory criterion for his attendance in a 12-month Young Leadership Training Program in Germany.
The Federal Republic of Germany’s InWent programme awarded International Leadership Training (ILT) scholarships to six Lao officials on Thursday to enable them to continue their education in Germany. The Ambassador of Germany to Laos, Dr Peter Wienand, hosted a farewell reception at the embassy in Vientiane for Ms Souphanith LOUNNALATH, Mr Vilay XAYTHONGKEO, Mr Manivong DAVAYSANTI, Mr Khampaseuth SAENYAVONG, Mr Anousack CHAYSAVANG and Mr Kingphet BANNAVONG. The scholarship recipients work in different sectors and are expected to leave for Germany at the beginning of next month, according to the embassy. The scholarship, which is tenable for one year, covers full tuition fees, return airfares and living allowance. The scholars must first take a three and a half month course to study the German language. Most of the recipients selected by InWent already have an academic education and two years of professional experience behind them. The programme will provide training and qualifications for technical and management staff from companies and institutions in developing countries and countries undergoing
transformation, so they can then initiate and manage processes of change within their own country, said Dr Wienand. During their time in Germany, ILT participants will spend a year consolidating their technical know-how, along with their management skills and their capacity to implement change. Dr Wienand cautioned that the differences in lifestyle and new teaching methods may pose challenges, but he said he believed the group would be successful and prove to be good representatives of their country.
He urged the trainees to share in German tradition and culture to strengthen the ties between the two countries. Laos and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1958.
Mr Manivong thanked the government of Germany for the help they had given to Laos in education and other areas, especially in the field of rural development. “The technical assistance and training provided, as well as short and long-term scholarships, has been very useful in upgrading the expertise of Lao officials, teachers and students,” he said. Mr anivong said on behalf of the scholars that they would use this opportunity wisely and consider how best they could use the skills they learned in Germany on their return to aos. “We will use this chance to learn as much as we can, not only in our academic studies, but also about German culture. It is the best opportunity we will have. The knowledge we gain will be of great help to us and to Laos,” he said. Dr Wienand said Germany was happy to be a part of the development of human resources in Laos. InWent currently offers ILT to more than 20 sectors, with programmes designed for specific countries, training around 400 people a year
